Apple is taking more control of its AI strategy in China, while Nvidia is reportedly looking to finance even more of the infrastructure behind the boom. SMIC added another important signal, with strong demand giving the Chinese chipmaker room to raise prices.

Market Pulse
The U.S. Consumer Finally Shows Some Cracks
July retail sales fell for the first time in nine months, adding to recent evidence that the U.S. economy is losing some momentum. The weaker spending data, combined with softer employment and relatively mild inflation, gives the Federal Reserve more reason to stay patient rather than rush into another rate increase.
Japan Keeps Growing, Just Not as Fast as Expected
Japan’s economy expanded at a slower-than-expected pace during the second quarter as household spending and business investment disappointed. Strong exports and continued global demand for semiconductor equipment kept growth positive, and economists still see the Bank of Japan as potentially moving toward another rate increase.

AI & Platforms
Anthropic Is Asking Wall Street to Value the Future
Anthropic is reportedly projecting roughly $190 billion to $200 billion of revenue in 2028 as bankers work toward what could become one of the largest IPOs ever. The extraordinary forecast shows just how much future growth investors may need to price in when valuing AI companies whose current spending remains enormous.
Apple Builds Its Own AI Model for China
Apple has trained a China-specific large language model with support from Alibaba, shifting away from a strategy that relied primarily on third-party models. The approach could give Apple more control over its AI experience in China as it tries to close the gap with Huawei and other local smartphone rivals.

Chips & Infrastructure
Nvidia May Put Another $3 Billion Into the AI Buildout
Nvidia is reportedly considering an investment of as much as $3 billion in SB Energy, the SoftBank subsidiary developing a massive Ohio data-center project for OpenAI. The talks show how Nvidia is increasingly moving beyond selling chips and helping finance the infrastructure needed to create demand for them.
SMIC Discovers It Has Pricing Power
China’s largest chip foundry raised prices for some of its most sought-after manufacturing capacity as AI demand tightened supply. Quarterly revenue topped $3 billion for the first time and profit tripled, giving SMIC more room to expand production as China pushes for greater semiconductor independence.

Jane Street Takes a $15 Billion Hit From the AI Selloff
Trading giant Jane Street lost roughly $15 billion in July from exposure to an AI-focused hedge fund and other technology positions. The firm remains enormously profitable for the year, but the loss shows how violent the recent unwind became even for some of Wall Street’s most sophisticated traders.
Thoma Bravo Finds Another Public Company to Take Private
Thoma Bravo agreed to buy insurance marketplace Accelerant for more than $4 billion, barely a year after the company went public. The 49% premium illustrates how private equity firms are taking advantage of the gap between depressed public-market valuations and what they believe businesses can be worth away from quarterly scrutiny.

China’s Next Restaurant War Is About Burgers
Yum China and a growing list of local restaurant operators are racing into China’s expanding burger market. Pizza Hut has already opened more than 200 Burger Bar locations and plans hundreds more as value-conscious consumers increasingly favor convenient meals that work for smaller households.
Capricor Gets an Unexpected Second Chance at the FDA
Capricor Therapeutics surged after regulators said they were willing to review additional data for its experimental Duchenne muscular dystrophy treatment. The drug had looked increasingly unlikely to win approval after an advisory-panel setback, but the FDA’s willingness to extend the process has reopened a path forward.

The 2% inflation target used by central banks worldwide — including the Fed — had to start somewhere. Which country adopted it first?

Movers and Shakers

Mercury Systems [MRCY]: Premarket Move: +12%
Mercury Systems surged as traders positioned ahead of Tuesday’s fiscal fourth-quarter results, with Wall Street earnings estimates moving higher over the past month. The defense-electronics company grew revenue 11.5% to $235.8 million last quarter, while strong results across the broader defense sector have added to expectations for another solid update.
argenx [ARGX]: Premarket Move: +10%
argenx jumped after its Phase 3 ALKIVIA trial delivered positive results for VYVGART Hytrulo in autoimmune myositis. The study met its primary endpoint with a 15.4-point greater improvement versus placebo at 52 weeks and also showed significant benefits in a myositis subtype that currently has no approved therapy.
Snap [SNAP]: Premarket Move: −13%
Snap dropped as fresh scrutiny builds around thousands of lawsuits alleging social-media platforms were designed to addict younger users. A federal appeals court recently allowed more than 3,000 cases involving Snap and other major platforms to move forward, adding another legal overhang just as youth-safety regulation intensifies.

Beyond the Rockets (Sponsored)
Wall Street analysts have picked apart the SpaceX filing, but one researcher believes they missed the biggest opportunity inside it.
He says the real story has little to do with rockets. Instead, it may point to a hidden business that could become more valuable than SpaceX’s launch operations and reshape the AI economy.
After traveling to Starbase to investigate, he identified one publicly traded company positioned to benefit.
It is not Tesla. And it is not SpaceX.

You Read This Far. Here's Where the Real Work Lives.
We run three live portfolios on Autopilot, and everything about them is public: every position, every allocation, every trade, visible the moment it happens.
We keep our own money in each one, because analysis you won't fund yourself is just content.
THE UNBREAKABLE STACK
Our growth book: durable software and cybersecurity names built to compound quietly for years.
THE HORMUZ PREMIUM
Our energy thesis: built for how that sector actually pays, over quarters, not headlines.
THE SQUEEZE
The defensive sleeve: staples and steady compounders, boring on purpose, built for the nights you'd rather sleep than watch futures.
And here's the part that makes it effortless: Autopilot does the trading for you. Connect the brokerage you already use (Robinhood, Schwab, Fidelity, and more) and every move we make gets mirrored in your own account automatically.
Your money never leaves your brokerage. It stays in your account, under your control, and you can override any trade or disconnect anytime. Autopilot even rebalances automatically when allocations drift, and you get a notification every time something happens.
No watching tickers. No timing entries. No fat-finger mistakes at market open. You pick the portfolio, we do the work, your account follows along.
Pick the one that fits your risk level, or run all three:
Live portfolios, real positions, our own capital at stake. Your funds stay in your own brokerage account. Past performance doesn't guarantee future results.
