Thursday delivered the kind of session that makes seasoned traders check their hands for tremors. Fear spread fast and wide, the riskiest corner of the options market got very busy, and at least one prominent investor decided to be a buyer.

Read on for what spooked everyone, who kept a cool head, and what history says tends to come next.

The Hidden Cost (Sponsored)

The U.S. national debt just passed $40 trillion. Servicing it now costs more than the entire defense budget.

See what that means for your savings.

Inflation is still above 3.5%, so every dollar in cash quietly buys less. Central banks are stockpiling gold at the fastest pace in decades.

Markets

Investors dumped chip and data center stocks in a panic, betting that Wednesday’s election result means a slower AI buildout.

That pushed the Nasdaq into correction territory and handed the S&P 500 its worst day since April 2025, with the semiconductor index sinking more than 12%. Bearish options bets boomed, with seven of the ten most active one-day contracts tied to the major indexes being puts.

Crypto billionaire Mike Novogratz said he was buying more shares of Galaxy Digital. House Democrats, meanwhile, are already preparing to call AI executives to testify under oath.

History offers some comfort, since the Nasdaq has averaged a 23% gain in the year after past corrections. Treasury yields fell to their lowest since Sept. 9 as investors ran for safety.

Top Winners and Losers

Antelope Enterprise Holdings [AEHL] $17.44 (+178.15%)

Antelope Enterprise Holdings went vertical on a day when almost everything else went down, climbing from about $6 to $17 on roughly 130 times normal volume.

No headline explains the leap, and the stock has form: it spiked past $30 intraday on Oct. 14 before closing near $11. Thin float, big swings, and plenty of whiplash.

AppLovin [APP] $356.10 (+31.04%)

AppLovin delivered a quarter that made its skeptics sit down: revenue of $2.18 billion against $2.07 billion expected, EPS of $4.30 against $4.04, and a fourth quarter forecast of $2.37 billion to $2.40 billion versus roughly $2.25 billion on the Street.

The ad tech name lit up while chip stocks cratered, and analysts raised targets to $450 and $475.

Portillo’s [PTLO] $7.02 (+28.81%)

Portillo’s served a quarter with extra sauce: revenue up 7% to $194.1 million, adjusted EBITDA up nearly 24%, and a raised full-year EBITDA outlook of $98 million to $101 million.

A new strategic plan promises faster restaurant growth and the closing of a handful of underperformers outside Chicagoland. Even the CEO cautioned that one quarter does not make a trend.

Veracyte [VCYT] $24.00 (-54.30%)

Veracyte beat the quarter, with revenue of $151.8 million up 15% and EPS of $0.51 against $0.41 expected, then cut its full-year revenue forecast, and the market only cared about the second part.

Leerink downgraded the stock to market perform, a $100 million buyback was shrugged off, and the diagnostics darling lost more than half its value.

mF International [MFI] $5.31 (-29.20%)

mF International, the Hong Kong trading platform firm that pivoted to a Bitcoin Cash treasury plan funded by a $500 million private placement at $10 a share, slid as risk appetite vanished.

Only about 9,000 shares traded, so the screen price is jumpy. At $5.31, the stock now sits barely above half of what placement investors paid.

Orion Energy Systems [OESX] $13.55 (-28.68%)

Orion Energy Systems had a mixed quarter: revenue rose 9% to $21.7 million, and LED lighting jumped 40%, but EV charging fell 41%, gross margin slipped to 28.7% from 31.0%, and the $0.20 per share loss missed estimates.

Management reiterated its $100 million to $102 million full-year revenue target, though investors clearly wanted more spark.
