Market Pulse
Wall Street Thinks the Easy Gains May Be Behind Us
Strategists expect the S&P 500 to finish 2026 only modestly above current levels, even as corporate earnings deliver their strongest growth in years. The message is less bearish than cautious: profits remain healthy, but elevated valuations mean companies increasingly need to beat already-high expectations to keep pushing stocks higher.
China’s AI Economy Is Pulling Away From the Rest
China’s industrial profit growth slowed in July, but technology-linked manufacturers continued to surge. Electronics, fiber optics, and communications equipment are benefiting from global AI demand, while consumer-facing and property-related industries remain constrained by weak spending at home.

Markets
The Nvidia-driven rally extended across the AI stack — CrowdStrike called it its best quarter and raised guidance, citing AI-driven threat complexity expanding its addressable market faster than modeled.
Salesforce deepened its Anthropic partnership, putting Claude inside Agentforce, its AI agent platform for sales and service; Q2 revenue beat estimates and guidance rose, turning months of “will AI monetize in enterprise software?” into a clearer answer.
Okta caught the wave with a 29% gain as investors extended the AI security thesis from endpoint to identity, linking CrowdStrike’s threat environment and Okta’s access management problem.
The goods trade deficit widened in July as AI equipment imports surged — complicating the macro backdrop even as earnings end on their strongest note.
Bitcoin held above $80,000 with $2.5 billion in ETF inflows over seven trading days, the largest since October, powered by dollar debasement pushing gold to new highs.

Hormel Raises Profit Outlook Despite Softer Sales
Hormel Foods raised its full-year adjusted earnings outlook after third-quarter adjusted EPS reached $0.37, while foodservice strength and cost discipline helped operating margin expand even as organic sales declined 2% and retail volumes remained under pressure.
Retail volume fell 9%, but growth across SPAM, Applegate and Planters helped offset some weakness as Hormel continues reshaping its portfolio and prepares to exit the whole-bird turkey category next fiscal year.
Lucky Strike Pushes Its Rebrand Past 70%
Lucky Strike Entertainment said its nationwide rebrand is now 73% complete as the company converts former Bowlero locations while expanding deeper into waterparks and family entertainment, with fiscal 2026 revenue reaching $1.245 billion.
Capital spending has fallen 54% from its fiscal 2024 peak, while management expects another decline next year as newer venues mature and the company targets stronger free cash flow across its 366-location portfolio.

Healthcare & Biotech
NeuroOne Moves Its Brain Drug-Delivery Platform Toward Human Studies
NeuroOne Medical Technologies completed three robotic-assisted large-animal procedures using its next-generation StereoCED platform, demonstrating targeted drug delivery into brain tissue and simultaneous electrophysiological recording as the company prepares for human investigational studies later this quarter.
Development of the human-use devices remains on schedule, and NeuroOne expects the successful procedures to support the transition from preclinical validation into clinical testing for its neurological drug-delivery technology.
Moderna Lines Up $2 Billion for Its Oncology Push
Moderna plans to raise $2 billion through convertible notes due in 2032, with proceeds available for oncology expansion, debt repayment and capped-call transactions designed to reduce potential dilution from future conversions.
Initial purchasers can acquire another $300 million of notes, giving Moderna additional financing capacity as it funds a cancer pipeline that now includes nine studies conducted alongside Merck across several major tumor types.

Infleqtion Lands $20 Million NASA Quantum Sensor Contract
Infleqtion secured a $20 million follow-on NASA contract to develop quantum sensing technology for the Quantum Gravity Gradiometer Pathfinder mission, which aims to put the world’s first space-based quantum gravity sensor into orbit.
The system is designed to detect tiny changes in Earth’s gravitational field, giving NASA a new way to track underground water, ice movement and natural resources from space as quantum technology moves into operational missions.
Boeing came under fresh scrutiny over an $880 million Navy contract after newly disclosed records showed President Trump’s investment accounts bought between $250,001 and $500,000 of Boeing shares on June 18, the same day the company received the award.
The disclosure brings new attention to Boeing’s government contracting relationship because the Navy agreement can reach $880 million, creating a high-profile overlap between a major defense procurement decision and the president’s personal investment activity.

Enterprise & Industrial Technology
Rockwell Adds AI to 24/7 Factory Support
Rockwell Automation launched TechConnectIQ Support, a new 24/7 remote service that combines technical specialists with AI-powered search, augmented-reality guidance and digital tools for manufacturers managing industrial automation systems across North America.
Customers can access installation help, troubleshooting, support history and equipment information through one platform, extending Rockwell’s long-running TechConnect service as factories increasingly rely on software and connected equipment with fewer on-site technical resources.
8x8’s AI Agent Usage Jumps Ninefold
8x8 reported nearly ninefold growth in AI Studio interactions since the platform entered early availability in April, with companies across more than a dozen industries now building AI agents for customer service and internal workflows.
The platform now supports AI agents across voice, SMS, WhatsApp, email, and web channels, along with new compliance capabilities and consumption-based pricing aimed at making customized automation easier for businesses without dedicated AI specialists.

Energy & Advanced Power
Eos Consolidates Battery Production Into One Pennsylvania Hub
Eos Energy Enterprises is consolidating all battery manufacturing operations at its 432,000-square-foot Thorn Hill facility in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, moving production out of Turtle Creek as the company simplifies its manufacturing footprint and targets lower conversion costs.
Management expects the consolidation to cut conversion costs by roughly 10% to 15% beginning in 2027, turning the recently opened Thorn Hill plant into the central production site for Eos’ long-duration energy-storage systems.
BWXT Wins a Place in the Army’s Nuclear Power Push
BWX Technologies was selected for the Army’s Janus nuclear program, putting its Advanced Nuclear Reactor technology on track for deployment at Fort Campbell as the military develops resilient on-site power for critical installations and national-defense missions.
Initial work includes site planning, nuclear regulatory steps and TRISO fuel fabrication at existing BWXT facilities, with groundbreaking targeted for late 2028 and reactor operations planned for the early 2030s.

Top Winners and Losers
Okta [OKTA] $172.91 (+28.63%)
Okta provides identity and access management for enterprises — the part of the tech stack that decides who gets access to what.
With AI agents now operating inside corporate networks alongside human users, the identity layer has become exponentially more complex and more critical.
Today’s gain rides the same AI security wave that CrowdStrike surfed; Okta is the identity answer to CrowdStrike’s endpoint answer. Buy rated.
Salesforce [CRM] $252.05 (+22.58%)
Salesforce deepened its partnership with Anthropic, with Claude models now more tightly integrated into Agentforce, its AI agent platform for enterprise sales and service.
Q2 revenue and earnings beat analyst estimates, and the guidance raise confirmed that AI adoption inside enterprise CRM is accelerating rather than stalling.
This is the quarter where investors stopped asking whether Salesforce would figure out AI and started pricing in that it already has. Buy rated.
CrowdStrike [CRWD] $227.96 (+20.50%)
CrowdStrike reported its best quarter on record and raised full-year guidance, with CEO George Kurtz crediting AI-driven threat complexity for expanding the company’s addressable market.
The cybersecurity platform’s annual recurring revenue growth accelerated in Q2 as enterprise clients responded to a threat environment made significantly more dangerous by AI-powered attack tools.
When offense gets smarter, defense spending follows.

Wetour Robotics [WETO] $11.50 (-33.45%)
Wetour Robotics has now been on both the winners and losers list in the same week: up 33% Monday, down 38% Wednesday, and down another 31% Thursday.
The company makes intelligent transportation robots and completed a 1-for-100 reverse split in August to regain Nasdaq compliance.
The post-split thin float is driving mechanical swings that have nothing to do with the business and everything to do with the positioning.
Build-A-Bear Workshop [BBW] $28.44 (-27.37%)
Build-A-Bear reported Q2 revenues of $115.3 million, down 7.2% from $124.2 million a year earlier, and lowered its full-year revenue guidance to $530-$550 million.
The miss happened in the same earnings week that Abercrombie posted its 15th consecutive quarter of growth — the contrast tells the story of which retail concepts are resonating with a cautious consumer.
Short interest stands at 23.1% of the float, which means the bears have been right so far. Strong Buy rated.
Vision Marine [VMAR] $7.51 (-19.25%)
Vision Marine Technologies was up 29% yesterday and is down 21% today.
The company makes electric and hybrid marine propulsion systems, and the move in both directions reflects positioning mechanics in a name with limited float rather than any change in the underlying electric marine technology thesis or commercial pipeline.

Wall Street has many famous expressions — but "dead cat bounce" is one of the more morbid ones. Where does the phrase actually come from?
- It originated in a 1920s Chicago trading pit expression about commodities that spike briefly before resuming their fall
- A 1985 Financial Times article about the Singapore and Kuala Lumpur stock market crash used the phrase verbatim
- A 1987 options trader coined it during Black Monday to describe the brief intraday recovery
- It comes from a Warren Buffett quote about distressed assets in a 1973 letter to Berkshire shareholders
