4 Active stocks to watch today 📈

It's gonna be a busy day for earnings, and futures are on the rise in the premarket...

Good Morning!

It's Chris from Elite Trade Club, here to give you this morning's premarket trading news.

Let's get ready to trade!

Markets 📈

Stocks posted mixed results on Tuesday. The Dow and Russell 2K took slight losses, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq edged higher.

  • S&P 500 [+0.2%]

  • Dow [-0.2%]

  • Nasdaq [+0.4%]

  • Russell 2K [-0.3%]

Today, futures are looking up in early trading. S&P 500 contracts are currently showing a 0.4% gain.

An overlooked company just landed a deal that could catapult it to the forefront of its sector in the coming months.

It operates in a sector that is known to be a favorite of Warren Buffett, and the deal could provide the catalyst it needs to break out.

This could be an excellent swing trade set up, so don’t pass up the opportunity.

Premarket Highlights 🔎

🚀 Alibaba Big Wigs Place $200M Insider Buy

Alibaba Group [ADR:BABA] just got a major vote of confidence from some of its most prominent insiders.

Co-founders Jack Ma and Joe Tsai forked out a massive $200 million to buy up company stock in recent days.

The enormous insider buy is renewing the market’s interest in the struggling Chinese eCommerce giant.

🐂 Bullish:
Post-purchase, Alibaba's stock did a happy dance, leaping 7.3% in Hong Kong – a jump we haven't seen in 10 months. The U.S. ADRs followed suit, upping the ante with a 7.85% overnight surge.

💰 Buying Breakdown:
Tsai, Alibaba's chair and sports aficionado, snagged $151.7 million of U.S.-listed ADRs, while Ma, the former chairman, opted for $50 million of Hong Kong-listed shares.

🔍 A Closer Look:
Though their purchase might seem small against Alibaba's whopping $175 billion market cap, it's a significant morale booster. The stock, down by 38% over the past year, needed just this kind of pick-me-up.

🔮 What It Means:
Ma and Tsai aren't just rooting for Alibaba from the bleachers; they're betting big on the company's future prospects.

It could mark the beginning of a turnaround for what was once one of the hottest stocks on the market.

What to Watch Today 👀

Earnings
Earnings season is officially in full swing, and there are several noteworthy names on today’s docket. Military industrial giant General Dynamics will report before the open, and we’ll hear from Tesla, IBM, and CSX after the closing bell. The newswires are relatively quiet this morning, so I expect the market’s primary focus will be earnings today.

Kura Oncology [KURA] - Last Close: $13.42

Early this morning, this biopharma firm announced a $150 million private placement that paid $17.25 per share.

The placement price represents a 29% premium to the stock’s closing bid on Tuesday, so shares are responding favorably to the news.

KURA is a top performer with a 41.1% gain on nearly a million shares traded.

My Take: Judging by the result of its placement, the Smart Money though this company looked undervalued. However, shares are now trading for more than the placement price of $17.25.

SciSparc [SPRC] - Last Close: $3.46

In an early press release, this company revealed it had entered into a new standby equity purchase agreement worth $20 million.

SciSparc made the deal with a fund managed by Yorkville Advisors Group, and the equity purchases can be conducted over a 36-month term.

SPRC is up 90.3% on more than 3 million shares traded.

My Take: SPRC has an extremely small float, and it’s short rate is elevated at 7.18%. This move could be a little exagerrated as a result.

NXU [NXU] - Last Close: $1.27

The EV charging and energy storage solutions firm just won a patent for its differentiated NxuOne EV Charging Solutions.

NXU said the new patent protects the design for a locking mechanism found in the unit’s charging handle.

NXU is up 32.2% on more than 11 million shares traded.

My Take: NXU has an elevated short rate, and it’s coming off a substantial down trend, but it’s also facing stiff resistance at the $1.70 mark.

Getaround [GETR] - Last Close: $0.1838

Car-sharing firm Getaround is surging after landing a new $20 million debt facility with Mudrick Capital Management to fund its 2024 operating plan.

The financing comes on the heels of a strong earnings report in late December, when Getaround posted top-line revenue growth of 42%.

GETR is up 99.4%, and it’s one of the morning’s most active stocks with over 36 million shares traded.

My Take: The GETR move looks overdone to me, so I recommend you be cautious and make preparations for a potential pullback if you’re gonna chase this rally.

That's it for today! Thanks for reading, and good luck out there!

Best Regards,

— Chris D.
