Premarket Highlights 🔎
🕊 None
It’s been a quiet start to the trading day. Everyone is still waking up from their holiday slumber. I expect a rather tame trading session today.
What to Watch Today 🔍
New Home Sales
Today’s calendar doesn’t have any major events that catch my eye, but the New Home Sales report could be worth a peek. High mortgage rates and plummeting inventories have strangled the home buying market, but prices remain elevated in many areas. This report could provide some valuable insights in an otherwise uneventful trading day.

Crown Castle [CCI] - Last Close: $103.58
Activist investors have their sights on Crown Castle.
This morning, a WSJ report claimes Elliott Management had amassed a $2 billion stake in CCI in an effort to force change at the wireless tower operator.
Elliott made a similar attempt in the past with Crown Castle, but the effort produced limited success.
Now, the activist hedge fund wants to engage with Crown Castle and explore strategies for improving the performance of its shares.
In the past, Elliott has criticized Crown Castle’s fiber strategy as “undisciplined” and called on management to focus on higher-return opportunities.
CCI is leading the S&P 500 with a 4.9% gain on news of the activist renewed investor’s interest in the company.
My Take: CCI has been trending higher since mid-October, but it ran into stiff resistance at $105 per share. Today’s rally is currently on pace to break through this resistance point.
Apollomics [APLM] - Last Close: $0.9972
Apollomics is extending its hot streak.
The tiny biotech firm has been on a tear since last week, when HC Wainwright analysts maintained a $17 price target and reiterated their “buy” rating.
The bullish analyst note came shortly after Apollomics partner in China, Avistone Biotechnology, got conditional approval for commercialization of vebreltinib.
Since then, shares have been on a tear. As of Friday’s close, APLM was up 74.9% over the past 30 days, and it’s running hot again today.
APLM is one of this morning’s top performers with a 30.3% gain on elevated trading volume.
My Take: APLM’s whopping 29.3% short percentage as of Oct. 31st could be fueling the stock’s dramatic rise over the past week. Just be careful you make your exit before the squeeze runs out of steam.
RedHill Biopharma [RDHL] - Last Close: $0.3155
RedHill Bio is rallying on a regulatory ruling.
This morning, the company said the FDA granted it a 5-year U.S. market exclusivity for Talicia® under a special approval for antibiotics.
The FDA’s ruling will extend RedHill intellectual property protection on on the drug until 2034.
Talicia is a first-line antibiotic for U.S. gastroenterologists treating H. pylori - a bacterial infection that affects approximately 35% of the U.S. adult population.
RDHL is a top performer today with a 153.2% gain on elevated volume.
My Take: This is big news for RDHL, but the rally seems overdone. I success the stock’s 35.0% short ratio could be playing a hand in this meteoric rally.
Near Intelligence [NIR] - Last Close: $0.1482
Near Intelligence is rebounding after a recent slide.
Shares of the stock began selling off on Tuesday of last week, when the company announced the termination of its CEO, Rahul Agarwal, effective immediately.
Near Intelligence also took a hit when it missed its 10-Q quarterly financials filing deadline shortly before announcing the firing its CEO.
Altogther, NIR is down 21.9% over the past 10 days, but the drawdown may have been overdone because shares are suddenly rebounding today.
NIR is one of this morning’s top stocks with a 30.8% gain on elevated trading volume.
My Take: NIR doesn’t have an elevated short percentage, although its short rate may have risen since the last data point on Oct. 31st. Judging from its recent price action, the company’s recent sell-off may have been somewhat overdone.
That's it for today! Thanks for reading, and good luck out there!
Best Regards,
— Chris D.
