The AI race is spreading into every layer of the stack, from custom chips and fiber networks to power contracts and public-market funding. At the same time, companies are being forced to think more seriously about the risks around that buildout, including cybersecurity, financing costs, and which software businesses could get disrupted next.

Market Pulse
AI Is Splitting the Tech Trade in Two
Wall Street is drawing a sharper line between the companies building AI and those that could be disrupted by it. Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Intuit were hit as OpenAI’s latest model revived software-disruption fears, while semiconductor names benefited from fresh infrastructure deals, creating an increasingly visible divide inside the technology sector.
Consumers Are Getting More Nervous About Their Paychecks
Americans’ inflation expectations were relatively stable in August, but their outlook for jobs and personal finances deteriorated. Expectations for higher unemployment climbed to their worst level since 2020, while confidence in finding another job weakened, giving the Fed another reason to watch what happens beneath otherwise resilient economic data.

AI & Chips
Qualcomm Lands a $60 Billion Shot at the Data Center
Amazon could buy as much as $60 billion of Qualcomm’s AI data-center chips under a new long-term partnership, with warrants giving Amazon the right to acquire roughly $4 billion of Qualcomm stock. The agreement gives Qualcomm its strongest validation yet as it tries to reduce its dependence on smartphones and build a serious AI infrastructure business.
OpenAI Pulls Samsung Deeper Into Its Custom-Chip Push
OpenAI says it is making progress with Samsung on next-generation semiconductor development while expanding the use of ChatGPT across the Korean technology giant. Samsung and SK Hynix are already lined up as potential memory suppliers for Stargate, giving South Korea an increasingly important role across OpenAI’s hardware and enterprise strategy.

Data Centers & Networks
Google Puts $15 Billion Behind Finland’s AI Buildout
Google will invest at least $15.1 billion in Finnish AI infrastructure over the next two years, its largest investment in Europe to date. The company also signed its first nuclear-power agreement outside the United States, locking in electricity for 22 years as access to dependable power becomes one of the biggest constraints on new data centers.
Verizon Orders 80 Million Miles of Fiber for the AI Era
Verizon signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement with Corning covering more than 80 million miles of high-density fiber through 2032. The project will expand broadband capacity while giving hyperscalers more of the high-speed, low-latency connectivity needed to link increasingly enormous AI workloads.

Next AI Winners (Sponsored)
Alexander Green bought Apple before the iPhone, Nvidia at a split-adjusted 66 cents, and Amazon and Netflix years before their biggest runs.
Now, after decades of spotting major technology trends early, he says he has identified three AI stocks that could lead the next phase of the boom.
These are not the obvious names most investors are already chasing.

Healthcare & Security
A Cyberattack Knocks Boston Scientific Off Guidance
Boston Scientific said it is unlikely to meet its previous 2026 sales and profit forecasts after a cyberattack disrupted manufacturing and order processing. Most major operations have resumed, but the incident shows how a cybersecurity failure can turn into an earnings problem even when demand for a company’s core products remains intact.
Amgen and AstraZeneca Get a Lung-Cancer Win
A combination of Amgen’s Imdelltra and AstraZeneca’s Imfinzi improved overall survival in a late-stage trial for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. The result strengthens the case for combining targeted immunotherapies and could expand the commercial opportunity for both companies in one of the more difficult forms of lung cancer to treat.

Capital & IPOs
DeepSeek Takes Its First Real Step Toward an IPO
DeepSeek has hired CITIC Securities to prepare for a potential Shanghai STAR Market listing later this year. The company is seeking more capital for computing infrastructure, model development, and talent as the financial cost of competing with much better-funded AI rivals continues to rise.
Amazon Takes Its AI Funding Push to Britain
Amazon began selling its first sterling-denominated bonds as hyperscalers increasingly tap global debt markets to finance enormous AI spending programs. Big Tech has already issued more than $200 billion of debt this year, more than double the total for all of 2025, turning access to capital into another important piece of the infrastructure race.

Poll: Earnings per share has been the dominant metric for public company performance for decades. Should it be?
- No — EPS is too easy to manipulate with buybacks and accounting choices. Free cash flow per share is the number that matters.
- Yes — it's imperfect but so is everything else. EPS has the advantage of being universally understood and consistently reported.
- It depends on the business — EPS works for mature cash-generating companies; it's meaningless for capital-intensive or growth-stage businesses
- EPS is fine for screening. It breaks down completely for actual analysis.

Movers and Shakers

Chime Financial [CHYM]: Premarket Move: +11%
Chime surged after agreeing to acquire Stride Bank for $590 million, a transaction that would give the fintech its own national bank charter. Chime expects more than $100 million in net synergies from lower partner-bank fees and cheaper funding, while the company also raised its revenue and adjusted EBITDA forecasts.
Hinge Health [HNGE]: Premarket Move: +4%
Hinge Health moved higher after Stifel raised its price target to $115 from $96 while maintaining a Buy rating. The firm expects 2027 growth of more than 33%, compared with the 27% consensus estimate, citing encouraging management commentary, payer feedback and continued strength in the digital musculoskeletal-care market.
ServiceTitan [TTAN]: Premarket Move: −17%
ServiceTitan plunged after its third-quarter revenue outlook came in below Wall Street expectations, overshadowing a solid fiscal second-quarter beat. Revenue increased 21% to $292.8 million, but management guided for just $285 million to $287 million next quarter, slightly below consensus and raising concerns that growth could continue to moderate.
